"It was my great privilege to work with some of the best chess journalists in America"

-J. Franklin Campbell, CJA Webmaster 1999-2017

J. Franklin Campbell created the CJA website in 1999 and served as webmaster till 2017. He has been a member of CJA since 1987.

Campbell wrote the column "The Campbell Report" for the APCT News Bulletin (American Postal Chess Tournaments magazine) for 18 years. Many of the columns can be seen here.

He also maintained a personal correspondence chess website for many years and published numerous articles and photos.

"I joined CJA in 1987 (perhaps earlier), wanting to improve my journalistic efforts.  My prime journalistic achievement was writing 'The Campbell Report' in the APCT magazine (American Postal Chess Tournaments) for 16 years. My article 'A Personal Internet Experience' was published in The Chess Journalist, Vol. XXVII, No. 90, December 1998 and was followed by an invitation from then CJA President PeteTamburro to create a web site for the CJA.

"After some thought I decided to accept his invitation and submitted my ideas to Pete. This resulted in the creation of our web site in 1999.  I served as webmaster following that till recently, learning a lot along the way.  It was my great privilege to work with some of the best chess journalists in America during that time. My best wishes to our new Webmaster Bethany Carson."
