to mail your entries, but I suggest a trip to the post office
if you wait till Saturday June 30. This reminds me of the
good old days when I would go to the post office to get
my postal chess postcards postmarked to provide proof of
the mailing date. -- Webmaster

should be considered. Nominations were originally due by June

will be by current CJA membership using a ballot included in the
June Chess Journalist. The ballot will list the deadline
for voting by mail.
1 June 2006: Outreach Committee statement of purpose
The chairman of the CJA Outreach Committee Howard Goldowsky
has provided a short statement of purpose for his committee. A
link is now provided on the Directory
of Officers page or you can view it
Here.
The committee has already made the step of adding Category 39
to the annual CJA awards program ("Best piece with a chess
related theme to appear in a non-chess or mainstream publication
(this could include on-line publications if they are not normally
chess related").
Also, ChessVista
(chess photos) added to links
page.

4 May 2006: First Internet entries received for annual CJA
Awards competition.
The first entries have been received for the 2006 CJA Awards
program. See the new link in the left column Internet
Entries Received. As new Internet entries arrive they will
be added to this page. Remember, the deadline for submitting material
for consideration is June 25, 2006. Items for consideration
must have been published between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006.
For the complete announcement see 2006
Awards Program.
Do you publish a magazine or a web site? You should submit the
better work you publish, whether it's your own work or that of
others. There's nothing wrong with testing the waters with your
own writing. What greater compliment could you provide the journalists
at your publication/web site than to submit their chess writing
for an award?
30 April 2006: Chess Today reaches milestone ... Issue
#2000
Congratulations to GM Alexander Baburin (Ireland) on creating
the excellent daily email chess newsletter Chess Today
and on reaching issue number 2000! The newsletter has continued
to improve since the first issue and is now a highly respected
and valuable source of chess news. For more information consult
the Chess
Today web site.
28 April 2006: Writing Links & Links for Writers Word Stuff
Added link Internet-Resources.com
Writing Links & Links for Writers Word Stuff to the CJA
Links page. This looks like an excellent resource for the
working journalist. Your suggestions for additional useful links
for chess journalists would be welcome. When you have time please
scan through the links ... you may find something useful or of
interest. Send suggestions to Contact
Webmaster.
27 April 2006: FIDE Presidential Race Heats Up
As the FIDE election for President during the Torino election
approaches things are heating up. Both major candidates now have
web sites supporting their campaigns.
I believe current president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov obtained a site
to respond to the high quality site of his opponent Bessel Kok.
Kok's campaign and web site is called The
Right Move while Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's is Chess FIDE Fidelity
... interesting choice of names for both parties.
The Torino (Turin), Italy Chess Olympiad web site is Olimpiadi
degli Scacchi Torino 2006 and the Olympiad takes place 20
May - 4 June 2006. The election will take place during the Olympiad.
The web site has a section for accredited journalists. I've never
successfully logged in using IE. Today I can't log in using Firefox,
which normally works. The site doesn't seem to be fully functional
yet. -- Franklin Campbell, CJA Webmaster
16 April 2006: Update to CJA Links page
Added link American
Amateur Press Association to the CJA
Links page.
14 April 2006: Membership List page updated
The current membership list has been posted on the Membership
List page.
13 April 2006: CJA Awards Program
The annual CJA awards program, previously published in The
Chess Journalist, has been posted on this site. See CJA
Awards Program. Deadline for submitting material for consideration
is June 25, 2006. Items for consideration must have been
published between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006. A new
category has been added this year: Category 39: Best
piece with a chess related theme to appear in a non-chess or mainstream
publication (this could include on-line publications if they
are not normally chess related).
|
REMINDER: Please don't forget to
submit, along with your regular CJA awards nominations,
nominations for the new mainstream article catagory. Nominations
for this catagory are free. Mainstream articles are defined
as any article about chess, or any interview of a chess
personality, written in a typically non-chess related,
national or local publication.
